Another great dive friday night, this time we went to Porthkerris, to try and find baby cuttlefish.
I struggled a lot more with strobe positioning this dive, as there were a lot more particles in the water, and very little natural light, but I still managed to take some images I’m happy with.
Underwater I usually prefer working with fisheye or wide angle lenses, but this was one instance where I can see that a macro lens may have been a better idea. The juvenile cuttlefish were quite happy for us to inch slowly closer to them, but I was using the 10-17mm again here so they seem a lot further away.
I love these little guys, they’re really endearing and incredible to watch as they change colour underwater too. I would have taken footage of this but the video button on this housing is currently not working so I’m focusing on stills for the time being. So here is an image of a juvenile cuttlefish pretending to be a rock –
I wasn’t trying for any shot in particular here but I do really enjoy taking these more abstract shots as well. This image features my dive buddies and a great deal of bootlace weed, which is growing some great heights at the moment – Another similarly coloured cuttlefish trying, and failing, to blend in with the rocky bed – This was our view as we exited the water. Porthkerris is a really beautiful dive site especially when you time it right –
